Although similar in the look and size of a blueberry, the açaí berry is mostly comprised of a large seed. The purple skin of the berry is what possesses tremendous health properties and has been used as a staple food by Amazon natives for centuries.

The açaí berry is 90% seed. Only 10% of the seed is an edible skin, which is ground with water into a thick purple puree and serves as a staple food to the inhabitants of the Amazon estuary.
